YOU Rescue Me

Everdearest Xavi,

I hit a wall yesterday; reached the end of my mom rope.  As you excitedly told me a story about dinosaurs and dragons, you turned around to find me resting on the ground, eyes closed.  You paused, came over to ask if I was ok.  I told you I was feeling just a little tired, and weak.

Baby boy...you picked my head up and put it on your lap.  You kissed me on the forehead and said, "Mama, I'll take care of you."  You covered me with a blanket and sat quietly as I gathered my strength.

And later, when I thanked you for taking care of me, you hugged me and said, "It was my pleasure."

Motherhood has cracked my heart into bits and somehow rebuilt it even stronger than before.  Sometimes I lose my patience with you. Sometimes I'm too busy to play, tell stories and be present.  But every day, you grant me forgiveness. With every hug and every new request for a story, you give me another chance to be the best version of myself.

These moments are many.  They are quiet and sometimes get lost in the bustle of the day. Yesterday, you hugged my heart in the exact way I needed to move forward.  It's been fueling me all day.  I hope you know the power your kindness holds.

Spread it like sprinkles!
Your mama, recharged.
